CEiiA is a Centre of Engineering and Product Development that designs, implements and operates innovative products and systems, alongside with its partners, for high-tech industries, such as, the aeronautics, automotive, urban mobility, deep sea and space ones. Our Vision is to establish Portugal as a reference within these industries, particularly in the development of technologies, products and systems, conceived, industrialized and operated from Portugal.

CEiiA operates in the global market, having a subsidiary in Brazil (MIND Brazil) and engineering teams deployed in Spain, France, United Kingdom, Switzerland and Italy. Currently, CEiiA has a team of 230 Researchers and Engineers presently involved in Research & Engineering activities with integrated product and process development methodologies, based upon full capabilities for product development including concept, design, research, engineering (CAD/CAE/CFD), prototyping and testing of materials and full-scale structures.

CEIIA’s clients and partners include some of the leading manufacturers and global operators in the mobility industries (Embraer, Leonardo, Dassault, Marenco, Volkswagen, Mitsubishi Fuso Trucks Europe, Siemens, BMW, ITAIPU Binacional, Uber, Cooltra, among others) national R&D centers and universities (IST, FEUP, UBI, University of Minho, International Institute of Nanotechnology, etc.) and international R&D Centers and universities (Cranfield Univ.– UK, Carnegie Mellon – USA, ITA – Brazil, VKI – Belgium, DLR – DE, ONERA – FR, CIRA – IT, etc.).

CEiiA is a member of EREA – the Association of European Research Establishments in Aeronautics –, eMi3 (eMobility ICT Interoperability Innovation Group), IFBEC (International Forum on Business Ethics for the Aerospace and Defense Industry) and supports the United Nations Global Compact.

Our main certifications and qualifications are: i) Qualified by EMBRAER as an Engineering Supplier for the Commercial and Executive Aviation fields (since 2010); ii) Qualified by Leonardo Finmeccanica Group QRS01 (since 2008); iii) AS9100|EN9001 (since 2008); iv) NATO AQAP 2110 – Quality requirements for design, development and production; v) Recognized Engineering Supplier by VW, SIEMENS, RENAULT- NISSAN and BMW; vi) NATO – Defense Leadership in Building Integrity Program.

Since its start, CEiiA has been evolving cumulatively from an engineering services provider (with skills in the design and structural development), to an entity that participates in complex development programs and more recently in the development of complete products and services. This evolution implies a continuous effort in the acquisition of new technical skills and supporting means to our activity that is developed in four major areas: Intelligent Systems Engineering; Product Development; Project Engineering and Production & Tests Engineering.

Structural Design and Analysis

CEiiA has a multidisciplinary team of experienced engineers capable of conceptualizing, designing, analyzing, optimizing and qualifying complex structural solutions and mechanisms for the aeronautics, aerospace, automotive, offshore industries. In terms of software expertise, CEiiA’s team of engineers have a full domain of CATIA, SolidWorks, ANSYS (Mechanical and Fluent), NASTRAN, PATRAN, Hyperworks, Matlab, among others.

Prototyping and Manufacturing

Having rapid prototyping capabilities – Additive Layer Manufacturing of Polymers and Metals –, as well as state-of-the-art composite and metallic components manufacturing technologies, which include several precision CNC machines and an Autoclave. CEiiA can perform the prototyping and/or manufacturing of complex structures for different fields of application.

CEiiA’s state-of-the-art testing facilities include: materials characterization, thermo-mechanical, static, structural and fatigue testing, flammability testing, environmental conditioning tests, as well as non- destructive testing, metrology and non-contact reverse engineering.
